Peat Moss

Peat moss, also known as sphagnum moss peat, is a type of organic material that is formed from partially decomposed plant material that accumulates in wetland environments over thousands of years. It is commonly found in bogs and peatlands, where it is harvested for use as a soil amendment.

Peat moss is widely used in gardening and agriculture as a growing medium, as it is lightweight, highly absorbent, and has excellent water-holding capacity. It is also an acidic material with a pH of around 3.5 to 4.5, which makes it an ideal substrate for acid-loving plants like blueberries and rhododendrons.

In addition to its growing benefits, peat moss is also a valuable carbon sink, as it stores large amounts of carbon in the soil.
